Paying for therapy shouldn’t be complicated

I am an in network provider for Aetna, United Healthcare, Optum, Oxford, and Oscar. I am licensed as an out of network provider for most other commercial plans. Those utilizing out of network coverage can be reimbursed for a portion of services.

My standard rate for a 50 minute session is $200. However, I do not believe that therapy is a luxury service and offer a sliding scale for those who demonstrate financial need.

I’m happy to discuss any financial concerns or questions during a free 15 minute consultation offered to all potential clients.

F.A.Q.S

+ What is in-network vs. out of network?

In-network means that I have a contract with your insurance company, and they pay me directly for services provided, minus your copay or coinsurance. Out-of-network means that I do not work directly with your insurance company. So you pay me for each session, and I will provide you with the proper paperwork to submit to your insurance, and they will reimburse you for a portion of your sessions. Every plan does not include out of network benefits, so make sure you check with your insurance company before going this route!

+ What is a copay?

A copay is a dollar amount portion of services you pay directly to your provider at the time of service. Copays are usually in the $15-$75 range.

+ What is coinsurance?

If you do not owe a copay, you will likely owe coinsurance., which is a percentage of services to be paid at the time of service.

+ What is a deductible?

Some insurance plans set a dollar amount that you need to pay out of pocket before they start contributing at all. In this case, you’d pay me for sessions at the rate determined by your insurance company until you meet your deductible. At that point, you will owe whatever copay or coinsurance your plan charges. Your deductible resets annually.

+ Why are all of these answers so vague and noncommittal?

In short, because healthcare in the US is stupid. Every insurance plan is different, and there’s no way I can tell you exactly what your billing situation will look like without communicating with your insurance company. I’ll check all of these things and give you a definitive breakdown of costs before our first session.
